"Mr ANZALONE is now the FATHER of a DAUGHTER!"
…Tuesday, 12 November, was the big day!
Shortly after 3:00 a.m., LAVINIA – with all of 50 cm and 2,960 g – saw the radiant eyes of her overjoyed parents for the first time! Mum and baby are “marvellously well!” and Dad is now “floating” several inches off the ground!
Sparkling eyes, thick dark locks and – LAVINIA even gave her parents a first smile!
According to Roman mythology, “Lavinia” was the daughter of the Latin king Lavinius and the wife of the Trojan hero Aeneas…
The radiant mother has certainly been very heroic, and the proud father feels simply more kingly than ever…!
VERY HEARTY congratulations to Patricia and Piero!
And a very hearty WELCOME, Lavinia!!
"The FIRST Advent Candle is already Burning!"

Radiant lights have been hanging from the outer façade since a few days ago, and a great many decorations in the entire house are already filling the air with Christmas spirit. It won’t be long before our nearly 4-metre high Christmas tree will join in with its sparkling splendour as well…

Current and upcoming EVENTS / HAPPENINGS in Vienna in December 2013
Interested in music, theater, the opera, museums, and exhibitions?
We’ll be happy to keep you informed about all the dates / schedules and perhaps even let you in on a few secrets too…
New Year's Eve 2013/14
At the change of year, the whole of Vienna is given over to partying and dancing. The New Year’s Eve Trail in the Old City is the highlight. A great ambience can be enjoyed as much at a gala dinner or festive ball as it can at a concert, the opera, in a hip club or a sophisticated bar.
Superb exhibitions and a dazzling array of events, concerts, operas, operettas and the hit musical "Elisabeth" promise a New Year's Eve program brimming with excitement throughout the day and night.
On December 31, Vienna's old city center transforms into a giant party zone: From 2 p.m. in the afternoon to 2 a.m. the following morning, top entertainment is guaranteed by the New Year's Path in the city center, at City Hall Square and in the Prater. Along the New Year's Path, dozens of gastronomes serve you punch and culinary treats. Numerous stations provide humorous entertainment with a show program, waltzes, an operetta, rock, pop and folk music as well as a DJ line-up. Especially popular is the classical area on Graben. The Vienna Dance Schools offer crash courses in the waltz on Stephansplatz, and a large fireworks display draws the crowds to the Prater and Heldenplatz.
A unique New Year's atmosphere can also be enjoyed on a boat trip along the Danube, at the Le Grand Ball in Hofburg Palace and at New Year galas held in City Hall and the city's leading hotels. The Majestic Imperator train, a "palace on rails", allows you to ride into the New Year in luxurious style, while the Vienna State Opera once again stages its traditional performance of Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus".
New Year's Day in Vienna will be greeted in classic fashion with a morning "hangover cure" brunch - featuring the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Day concert on a big screen - in front of City Hall.
Winter in the MQ
Things get hot in the MuseumsQuartier from 7 November, even on the coldest of winter days. This is ensured by special punch creations in the ice pavilions, the curling lane and a varied program with DJ sounds and all sorts of action.
The MuseumsQuartier in Vienna is not only a popular place to meet in summer. During "Winter in the MQ", the inner courtyard is transformed into an atmospheric winter location. Sophisticated punch specialties are served in the six ice pavilions to warm visitors up. This year, street artists transform the ice pavilions ‘live’ into works of art. In addition, video projections on the façades bathe the MQ in a very special light.
DJs provide a diverse mix of music for warming sounds during “Winter in the MQ”. There’s a great throng every year at the popular curling lane. The "Winter Race" is held in the pond of the MuseumsQuartier - with remote-controlled cars.
"Winter in the MQ" opens on 7 November at 8:15 p.m. with a concert by "Elektro Guzzi". If you’re looking for Christmas gifts, why not have a rummage through the WeihnachtsQuartier from 29 November to 1 December, where designers offer interiors, ceramics, glass, fashion and jewelry for sale.

Baselitz: Birthday exhibition
[Translate to en:] Anlässlich seines 75.

Lucian Freud in Vienna
The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna is to show works by British artist Lucian Freud (1922-2011) for the first time in Austria, beginning on 8 October 2013. Photographs can be viewed in the Sigmund Freud Museum.
The exhibition in the Kunsthistorisches Museum was conceived in close collaboration with the artists in the months and weeks leading up to Lucian Freud’s death in July 2011, and presents works from his entire 70-year period of creativity. Lucian Freud, one of the most important painters of the modern era, was a grandson of the famous Viennese psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.
The show combines, for the first time, all of the images that Lucian Freud himself considered to be his most important works and which he selected for the exhibition himself. Amongst the pictures shown in Vienna are some of his most famous paintings: portraits that show Freud's family members, Queen Elizabeth II. of the United Kingdom and other artists such as Francis Bacon, self-portraits, as well as landscapes and still lifes. The exhibition brings together loan pieces from important museums, including the Tate Modern in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington D.C. and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
Parallel to the exhibition in the KHM, the Sigmund Freud Museum shows an exhibition with photographs from the studio of Lucian Freud by David Dawson. The images document the circumstances under which Freud's works were created and provide an intimate, personal view of one of the 20th century’s most important artists.
8 October 2013 – 6 January 2014
Special opening times for the exhibition in the Kunsthistorisches Museum: Tu-Su 10 am – 6 pm, Th & Fr 10 am – 10 pm
