„Advent, Advent, a small light burns...”
... on our Hotel Austria advent wreath now. Our ladies have once again arranged a wonderful advent wreath this year around the spring fountain in our dining room – probably one of the largest in Vienna and surely one of the most extraordinary.
Other than that the entire hotel shines in Christmas brilliance – from the shining lights of the outer façade, the shining candles of the dining room and lobby, to the shining Christmas decorations on the stairwells and in many other areas. Soon our 4-meter high Christmas tree will shine just as much as and with all the others.
„The Next Episode – 360° PANORAMA PHOTOS“
View from the right, from the left, from above, from below, zoom, and so on and so forth… all of these should now be possible on our website not just for recordings of Vienna but also for recordings from our hotel.
That said and done: the “photo-shoot” starting bright and early, even before the first guests appeared at the breakfast buffet. During the course of the day, it went on with our guest rooms, TV room, and reception areas.
You can admire the result in 360° and HD quality on our website in a few days.

New Year’s Eve 2012/13
At the change of year, the whole of Vienna is given over to partying and dancing. The New Year’s Eve Trail in the Old City is the highlight. A great ambience can be enjoyed as much at a gala dinner or festive ball as it can at a concert, the opera, in a hip club or a sophisticated bar.
Superb exhibitions and a dazzling array of events, concerts, operas, operettas and the hit musicals "Elisabeth" and "Sister Act" (German version) promise a New Year's Eve program brimming with excitement throughout the day and night.
On December 31, Vienna's old city center transforms into a giant party zone: From 2 p.m. in the afternoon to 2 a.m. the following morning, top entertainment is guaranteed by the New Year's Path in the city center and the Prater. Along the New Year's Path, dozens of gastronomes serve you punch and culinary treats. Numerous stations provide humorous entertainment with a show program, waltzes, an operetta, rock, pop and folk music as well as a DJ line-up. Especially popular is the classical area on Graben. The Vienna Dance Schools offer crash courses in the waltz on Stephansplatz, and a large fireworks display draws the crowds to the Prater and Heldenplatz.
A unique New Year's atmosphere can also be enjoyed on a boat trip along the Danube, at the Le Grand Ball in Hofburg Palace and at New Year galas held in City Hall and the city's leading hotels. The Majestic Imperator train, a "palace on rails", allows you to ride into the New Year in luxurious style, while the Vienna State Opera once again stages its traditional performance of Johann Strauss' "Die Fledermaus".
New Year's Day in Vienna will be greeted in classic fashion with a morning "hangover cure" brunch - featuring the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Day concert on a big screen - in front of City Hall
Opera stars in "Christmas in Vienna", swinging Christmas melodies in the style of Frank Sinatra, musical stars and gospel singers with a Christmas program, Advent concerts in Viennese churches or the Albertina through to Advent choral concerts in City Hall: Vienna gets in the mood for Christmas through music.
On 20 and 21 December, international stars of the opera world meet at "Christmas in Vienna" for a festival of Christmas music in the Vienna Konzerthaus. Julia Novikova, Sophie Koch, Piotr Beczala and Bo Skovhus sing classical and popular pieces, accompanied by the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, the Wiener Singakademie and the St. Florian Boys' Choir.
The Christmas concert of the Vienna Volksoper is already a tradition - this year, the ensemble of the Volksoper and the children's choir sing Christmas songs from around the world on 16 December.
The stars of the musical industry gather on 17 December in the MuseumsQuartier/Hall E for "A Christmas Eve 2012": Maya Hakvoort, Uwe Kröger, Pia Douwes, Marjan Shaki, Lukas Perman, Ramesh Nair and The Rounder Girls will be there. Well-known classics and many surprises are on the program. "Christmas with The Rat Pack" can also be experienced in the MQ from 21 to 31 December. The ingenious doubles of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. present their legendary songs and swinging Christmas classics, such as "White Christmas".
Gospel fans have a choice: The Original USA Gospel Singers narrate the history of Gospel, from the influence of the Caribbean to the Christmas story, in their grand stage show at the Wiener Stadthalle on 20 December. In the Minorite Church, the New York Reach Ensemble performs the equally captivating program "Harlem Christmas Gospel 2012" (6-22 December). In the Votive Church, the vocally powerful ensemble "American Christmas Gospel" together with Stella Jones presents soul songs of enchanting intensity (30 November, 1, 7, 8 and 14 December). Also in the St. Charles Church, hear both "The Christmas Gospel" (7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22 December) and a Russian Christmas concert with the Ural Cossacks (16 December).
St. Anna's Church, a secret Baroque tip in the city center, opens its doors to the "Trompetenzauber in St. Anna". Johannes Moritz on the trumpet and Reinhard Schobesberger on the organ play music from Viennese classics to international Advent songs. Trumpet music resounds also on Fri, Sat, Sun at "Christmas Trumpet" in the Maltese Church. And on December 15 and 19 the christmas program "Trumpets in Concert" is presented by three trumpeters at Minorite Church.
An Advent concert series in St. Stephen's Cathedral offers festive chamber music by Mozart, Bach, Schubert and Haydn as well as Advent songs, masterfully interpreted by the soloists of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra (Fri, Sat, Sun). In the Musensaal of the Albertina, the Clemencic Consort plays pre-Christmas Baroque concerts on original instruments (8, 9, 15 and 16 December 2012).
Beauty and the Beast
Walt Disney's magical fairytale musical opens at the Vienna Stadthalle on 29 November. The romantic love story about the beautiful Belle and the spellbound Prince enchants and charms visitors young and old.
Walt Disney created an Oscar-winning success with Beauty and the Beast in the early 1990s. It wasn't long before a musical version of the fairytale story about Belle and the Prince arrived on Broadway. From there, "Beauty and the Beast" conquered the world for a second time. It played a legendary 5,464 times on Broadway and celebrated premieres in 13 countries.
Wonderful music, floatingly light dance scenes, sparkling solo performances and opulent, riotously colorful costumes stage the famous fairy story in shining splendor. The characters include objects that are brought to life: the candlestick "Lumière", the clock "Cogsworth", the teapot "Mrs. Potts" and many more. The show can be seen in the 2,000-seater auditorium of Stadthalle F.

Night in the museum
Paintings, photos, films and sculptures dealing with the night can be marveled at in the Lower Belvedere until February.
The exhibition entitled "The night in the twilight. Art from the Romantic to today" allows a glimpse into the dark time of day. Works by Caspar David Friedrich, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Hans Makart, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, René Magritte and Paul Delvaux show the different presentations of night over the past 200 years.
The show is arranged into three areas:
• Night-time presentations of the Romantic, which differ clearly from the pictures of the Enlightenment
• Achievements of technical and scientific progress around 1900, such as photographs based on the camera obscura
• The garish and convivial nightlife as well as the restlessness of modern cities at the turn of the millennium
