WEDDING BELLS – in the “eternal” city this time!

Rome,  31st August 2009

A marvelous day!

At the historical walls of “Complesso Vignola Mattei”, PATRIZIA and PIERO will exchange their “I Do’s”.It is not the breathtaking wedding dress of PATRIZIA,
Nor is it the incredibly elegant PIERO,
It’s not the festive wedding ceremony with many friends,
And also not the phenomenal and unforgettable wedding celebration at the “Castello della Castellucia”…

Today, the “eternal city of Rome” is truly honored – by the presence of the picture-pretty and enchanting PATRIZIA and a man as steadfast as a rock - PIETRO-PAOLO.

We send all of our BEST WISHES to the HAPPY COUPLE!

“Bowling-Time” – Another fun-filled team event for our staff

Finally – we’ve made it this far again! Almost the entire Hotel AUSTRIA staff attended and participated in our yearly Bowling Tournament!
We “battled” to become the bowling champion on three bowling lanes, wearing shoe sizes from 35 to 46. From start to finish, we’ve played with merriment and most of all, lively team spirit. As we capped the evening with a cozy and pleasant dinner on pizza, scampi, fish, and dessert, we handed over a “Bowling Champion 2009” trophy as well for the very first time to our winner this year.

“Vienna – up close and personal!”

Getting married in Vienna? – That’s a dream fulfilled yearly as well by many non-Viennese and foreign visitors. Rings are exchanged in the imperial ambience of the Schönbrunn or the Belvedere Palace, at the Schmetterlinghaus (House of Butterflies) or even at the breezy height of the Riesenrad (Giant Ferris Wheel)… Vienna is the city for romantics.

This time let’s take a much closer look at the Wiener Kaasgrabenkirche (Vienna Kaasgraben Church) – the church most often chosen for church weddings.

Sitting beautifully on a small hill at the foot of the Grinzinger Weinberge, the lank, white tower of this neo-baroque church begins to emerge from afar in front of a dark backdrop of trees and vineyards. The church is right within a horseshoe-shaped ascending staircase, which served and still serves as a backdrop for many thousands of wedding photos. Within the well-maintained white church interior, the hall is bright and pervaded by light and features numerous neo-baroque flower ornaments. Eye-catching is the powerfully-impressive high altar with four marble columns and a baroque Madonna statue.

This Roman Catholic church is also known as a church of pilgrimage for Our Lady or Mary of Sorrows. It owes the name Kaasgraben to a field name which is traced back to iron- and sulfur-filled water (which smelled similar to whey).

Impressionism. Painting Light.

Comprising 170 works, the exhibition Impressionism - Painting Light unfolds the mesmerizing world of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting.

In addition to 75 paintings from the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne, the show will include an enriching range of superb works from the Albertina and the Batliner Collection as well as loans from private collections and international museums. 40 historical objects, painting utensils and gadgets will convey an idea of an artist’s daily routine, of how he approached his motifs and prepared and executed his paintings. Didactic materials such as an installation for the explanation of optical phenomena or x-ray and infrared pictures will allow the visitor to literally grasp the genesis of Impressionist works.

The focus of this extraordinary and ambitious exhibition will be on the results of a five-year research project which has provided new, fascinating insights into the development of Impressionism and its techniques and modes of painting. Equal importance has been granted to the history and the technology of art. This approach has yielded fresh answers to such questions as “What is an impression?”, “Inside or outside?”, or “When is a painting finished?” - answers permitting to retell the story of Impressionism from a new perspective based on exemplary works by Courbet, Caillebotte, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Pissarro, Signac and Van Gogh.

... sensual, feminine, Flemish. Women’s images around Rubens

The main highlights of this presentation are the three prominent masterpieces of Peter Paul Rubens: the “Pelzchen” (Furling), “Cimon”, and “Efigenie” as well as a self-portrait. For the first time, these works will be viewed as they relate to paintings by other Flemish artists, which have not been on display for viewing for a long time because of their big formats or because of a lack of space.

Rubens’ sensual depiction of his ideals of feminine beauty has essentially given distinction to our concept of baroque opulence in conjunction with the art of the catholic Flanders and possessed a significant influence on the contemporaries of maestros. In addition to this, as shown here, still other images of women have been developed which show the various roles that are embodied by women in mythology, daily life, and religion. The show is to be completed by a selection of objects from the art chamber and an antique collection that typifies the different aspects of femininity.

GLOW! – THE SHOW

The Black Theatre – Show – Sensation

GLOW! - THE SHOW is a completely new kind of entertainment and simply can’t be compared to any other similar entertainment form. What is GLOW? A story, that which is found only in the movies – rivalry, power, money… but also lots of love, cool gags and stunts that astonish everyone.

How is it possible? GLOW improvises on the classic laws of the stage and constantly shows changing perspectives, lets the actors glide over the stage in slow-motion, and the audience can even watch from a bird’s eye-view – without having to leave their seats, because GLOW uses the techniques and tricks of the Black Theatre.

It took two years to work on the preparation and rehearsals for GLOW! – THE SHOW. The result is bombastic: an interactive theatre full of fantastic ideas, funny characters, a new form of an easy-to-understand language derived from Hebrew, English, Spanish, and German, stirring music, and spectacular costumes. A high fun-factor is guaranteed!
