Mrs VEHIDA and Mr RICHARD worked especially hard to create our special Advent Wreath on time for the first Advent Sunday! Spanning a diameter of TWO metres (!) encircling the fountain in the dining hall, it has no match in Vienna.

Since a few months, his spouse Mrs DONA has been back from her waiting period participating fully in the Hotel AUSTRIA-Team again!
When “the mum”, Mrs DONA is working, “the dad”, Mr SASA simply takes on the household and the “big” sons…

New Year's Eve 2016/17 in Vienna
At the change of year, the whole of Vienna is given over to partying and dancing. The New Year’s Eve Trail in the Old City is the highlight. A great ambience can be enjoyed as much at a gala dinner or festive ball as it can at a concert, the opera, in a hip club or a sophisticated bar.
Superb exhibitions and a dazzling array of events, concerts, operas, operettas and the hit musicals "Evita" and "Schikaneder" promise a New Year's Eve program brimming with excitement throughout the day and night.
On December 31, Vienna's old city center transforms into a giant party zone: From 2 p.m. in the afternoon to 2 a.m. the following morning, top entertainment is guaranteed by the New Year's Eve Trail in the city center, at City Hall Square and in the Prater. Along the New Year's Eve Trail, dozens of gastronomes serve you punch and culinary treats. Numerous areas provided entertainment with show programs, waltzes, operetta, rock, pop, DJ lines and hit music. The classical area on Graben is a popular fixture. Vienna's dance schools offer crash waltz dancing courses here during the afternoon and transform Graben into an idyllic open-air ballroom. A large firework display will be held on City Hall Square and in the Prater at midnight.
A unique New Year's atmosphere can also be enjoyed on a boat trip along the Danube, at the New Year’s Eve Ball at the Hofburg Vienna (Imperial Palace) and at New Year galas held in City Hall and the city's leading hotels. The "Majestic Imperator", a palace on rails, invites everyone to go on exclusive rides into the new year, while "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss is performed in time-honored tradition at the Vienna State Opera and also broadcast live on the outdoor screen.
New Year's Day in Vienna will be greeted in classic fashion with a morning "hangover cure" brunch - featuring the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Day concert on a big screen - in front of City Hall (from 10 a.m.).
New Year's Eve Concerts
In Vienna, Johann Strauss' operetta "Die Fledermaus" belongs to New Year's Eve like the New Year's Concert of the Philharmonic belongs to the first day of the year. Other musical events at the change of year can be enjoyed at the Musikverein, Konzerthaus and the Kammeroper.
Two opera houses perform the popular operetta "Die Fledermaus" over the New Year period: the Volksoper (31 December and 1 January) and the Vienna State Opera (31 December, 1 and 3 January). Singers include Michael Schade, while Burgtheater actor Peter Simonischek plays the role of Frosch. Best of all: the State Opera Fledermaus will be screened live on the video wall on Karajan Platz in front of the Opera House from 7.00 pm, where it can be watched for free. A potpourri of opera will be shown earlier in the day starting at 2.00 pm. The performance is also available in the livestreaming offer of the Vienna State Opera.
The most famous concert in the world - the New Year's Concert - is held in the Golden Hall of Vienna's Musikverein each year on 1 January (previews with an identical program on 30 and 31 December). Gustavo Dudamel conducts in 2016/17. All tickets for this year's concerts have already sold out. Tickets for all three concerts are drawn without exception in January via the website of the Vienna Philharmonic. Despite this, there's no need to miss the New Year's Concert: that's because it's shown live on TV in 90 countries as well as on giant video walls both at the New Year's Market on City Hall Square and also on the square in front of the Vienna State Opera.
Members of the Vienna Philharmonic can also be found amongst the Vienna Ring Ensemble. In the atmospheric Brahms Hall of the Musikverein, this formation plays another New Year's Eve concert of popular classical works in the guise of a chamber orchestra (30 and 31 December).
The Wiener Konzerthaus presents a packed musical New Year's program: The Wiener Symphoniker brings the year to a close with Beethoven's 9th Symphony (30 and 31 December, 1 January).After this festive program, things continue in buoyant mood in the Grand Hall with the New Year's Eve gala of the seven-person band "The Philharmonics" on 31 December. Accompanied by bass baritone Luca Pisaroni, it exudes esprit and atmosphere. The Strauss Festival Orchestra Vienna performs rousing polkas, waltzes and marches of the Strauss dynasty (28 and 29 December, 1 January). Dirk Stermann and Christoph Grissemann present the Loriot comedy The egg is hard!, accompanied on the piano by Philippine Duchateau (31 December).

Women found it difficult to make it on Vienna’s art scene around 1900. The Jewish Museum Vienna is now devoting a show to female artists of this time and tracing their extraordinary careers.
During the fin de siècle, a golden age of art and culture, an artistic career for women was almost inconceivable. Many of them, above all Jewish women, were abundantly in evidence on the art scene as salonières or patrons, but found themselves barred from an official, artistic education.
So it is all the more amazing how many women managed to succeed, despite the restrictions.
Painters such as Tina Blau, Broncia Koller-Pinell, Marie-Louise von Motesiczky or the ceramicists Vally Wieselthier and Susi Singer are just some of the pioneering women who chose art as their vocation in late 19th-century Vienna. They took their place in art history; many others, however, were lost in the mists of time. "The better half. Jewish female artists to 1938" is thus the title given by the Jewish Museum Vienna to its current exhibition of 44 female artists and their extraordinary educational paths and careers.
Drawing on the individual fates of Jewish female artists, the show tells of the struggle for recognition on a male-dominated art scene, as well as of highly promising careers that were interrupted by expulsion and exile, or ended forever in the extermination camps of National Socialism.

Winter in the MQ
Things get hot in the MuseumsQuartier - even on the coldest of winter days. This is thanks to the special punch creations in the ice pavilions, live concerts, DJ sounds and all sorts of action in November and December.
The MuseumsQuartier in Vienna is a popular meeting place, not just in summer. For "Winter in the MQ”, the courtyard is turned into an atmospheric winter location. Unusual punch specialties are served in the six ice pavilions to warm visitors up. In addition, illuminated trees and artistic projections on the façades cast the MQ in a very special light. The "Winter Race" is held in the pond of the MuseumsQuartier - with remote-controlled cars.
At "Winter in the MQ", DJs provide warming sounds with a varied mix of music every day. On the opening evening (3 November), Mavi Phoenix gives a live concert at 7.00 pm, followed by Erwin & Edwin at 8.30 pm. There are also concerts in the MQ courtyard on 7 and 15 December. Market flair in the Alte Post
The Alte Post transforms into a market hall again every Friday and Saturday. Selected food producers present their delicacies there.
In the Old City, in the heritage-listed rooms of the Alte Post, visitors are one again surprised with culinary treats and sweet temptations. Starting on 11 November, selected regional food producers, established manufacturers, local manufactories, chefs and food truck operators from Vienna and the surrounding area present their products every Friday and Saturday.
The market booths on offer range from wine to spices, from Viennese honey to coffee, from ham specialties to Viennese vineyard snails. Visitors meet the producers in person and learn about the stories behind the delicacies.
And, of course, everything can be sampled on the spot - from breakfast to going home time. Leading restaurateurs invite visitors into the market halls, which have long market tables where it's easy to make new acquaintances, and to the market hall café for coffee and cake. On Friday evening, the market is supplemented with wine and beer tastings as well as DJ sets, while breakfast and brunch are provided on Saturday.
