… as written by our Mr Dauti. Some time ago, we started to transform our breakfast room with bright, fresh colours and designs - first the curtains and then the chairs - now at last the walls glow in a welcoming shade of yellow to rival the spring sun.
Using paint and crown mouldings, Mr Dauti has "conjured up a new and fresh look" to create a harmonious ambiance throughout.

Danube Island Festival
Samy Deluxe, Russkaja, Seiler und Speer, Camo & Krooked: these are just some of the stars that will set the mood at Europe's biggest free open-air festival on the last weekend in June. Concerts of all genres will be performed on several stages in parallel. There's also a cabaret, sport and children's program.
From 24 to 26 June, Vienna's Danube Island becomes a mega-party site for around three million visitors. About 1,500 artists offer a continuous program on around a dozen stages at the Danube Island Festival. There's entertainment on various themed islands to suit every age and taste, while numerous catering stands keep everyone well fed and watered.
Amongst the leading acts of the 33rd Danube Island Festival are the Austrian stars Russkaja, who mix Ska, Rock and Polka beats into their music, and the overnight Austropop duo success Seiler und Speer.
The German Electropunk band Frittenbude is also there as are the Austrian Drum'n'Bass-Electronic greats Camo & Krooked. The Hamburg rapper Samy Deluxe has already sold over a million tracks. DJ Flip Capella from Austria and the Italian DJ duo Vinai provide cool sounds. The line-up is being constantly added to.
There's a wide range of music on offer to ensure that fans of hits and oldies get their money's worth with, for example, Andy Borg and Reinhold Bilgeri. Cabaret star Thomas Maurer gets your laughter muscles aching. Erwin Steinhauer & Klezmer Reloaded Extended and Herbert Pixner also set the mood in the Ö1 Culture Tent.
The Sport island provides the opportunity to go climbing, whether on the climbing wall or in the high-rope garden, trying out the slackline or jumping onto an air cushion from a height of ten meters.
The Action & Fun island is a playground for strong guys and daring chicks - including a bike show and the Strongman Arena, where participants can test their mettle in car tire lifting and a sandbag race and where the professionals take a chance at a world record attempt every day.

Pioneers of Post-War Modern Art
An exhibition at the mumok is dedicated to the creative works of two important collectors of art post-1945: Werner Hofmann and Viktor Matejka.
Both were important trendsetters in post-war Vienna and are closely associated with the mumok. While Werner Hofmann (1928-2013) laid the foundations of the collection, the mumok has Viktor Matejka (1901-1993) to thank for one of its archives. Hofmann’s teaching collection, built up since 1960, contains the main genres and artists such as Expressionism (Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka), Cubism and Futurism (Giacomo Balla) as well as constructive tendencies and Bauhaus (Piet Mondrian). Dada and Surrealism are represented with Max Ernst and René Magritte. In addition to main works from his collection, the show also focuses on his collecting and exhibition activities.
Matejka played a central role as the first City Councilor for Culture in the post-war period. He attached special importance to the reappraisal of the Nazi period and the return of expelled artists such as Oskar Kokoschka and Arnold Schönberg. His archive with a focus on the 1960s comprises newspaper and magazine excerpts as well as ephemera (letters, postcards, posters, etc.). A selection can be seen in the exhibition alongside works by the main artistic groupings after 1945.

Red Ribbon Celebration Concert
A charity concert starring opera greats such as Yusif Eyvazov, Juan Diego Flórez and Thomas Hampson will be held at the Burgtheater on 10 June for the benefit of HIV/AIDS aid projects.
The Life Ball, one of the world's biggest AIDS charity events, is taking a creative break in 2016. Nevertheless, the Red Ribbon Celebration Concert, which has been a fixed component of the Life Ball weekend for the past four years, will be held this year as usual. Vienna's Burgtheater will be decked out in Red Ribbons for the fifth time on 10 June.
Stars including Piotr Bezcala, Yusif Eyvazov, Juan Diego Flórez, Thomas Hampson, Michael Heltau, Margarita Gritskova, Philippe Jaroussky, Dionne Warwick and many more besides will follow in the footsteps of the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice at this concert. All proceeds of the evening will go towards HIV/AIDS aid projects in Austria and abroad. The Wiener Akademie orchestra plays under the direction of Martin Haselböck. Short readings will be given between the musical offerings.

Vienna Jazz Festival
From 28 June to 11 July, the Vienna Jazz Festival brings high-ranking stars such as Cyndi Lauper and Jamie Cullum to Vienna's stages.
The Vienna Jazz Festival, a fixed item in the annual festival series, offers more than the eponymous cool sound. Soul, funk, pop, electronic and ethnic sounds can also be enjoyed - and all in the best venues.
The daily program at the Vienna State Opera from 1 to 7 July is the very best there is: start by experiencing the 88 year-old composer legend Burt Bacharach 'live'. Girl power fills the Vienna State Opera at the double concert by Cyndi Lauper and the Austrian Meena Cryle, and the next day at the concert by Beth Hart from the US.
Pianist Brad Mehldau, electronic musician and percussionist Mark Guiliana and funk-jazz fusion guitarist John Scofield perform on stage together, followed by the Austrian guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel. The sound of the spirited Brit Jame Cullum varies between pop and jazz. The final concert at the State Opera is given by composer Ludovico Einaudi.
A five minutes walk from the Vienna State Opera away, at the Musikverein, piano virtuoso Keith Jarrett plays his program "An Evening of Solo Piano Improvisations" on 9 July.
An open-air concert on the grounds of Wien Energie Fernwärme will delight audiences for several hours and includes a performance by acid jazz legend Incognito. Also outdoors are three concerts in the colonnaded courtyard of Vienna City Hall, where the motto is "Funk and dance". "Shooting Jazz Star of the Year 2015" Kamasi Washington plays the saxophone at the Ottakringer Brewery.
Music will be played on the Summer Stage, a venue by the Danube Canal - admission is free. Established Viennese jazz clubs are also concert venues of the Vienna Jazz Festival: the Porgy & Bess, the Jazzland and the Miles Smiles.

Summer in the MQ
The summer season in the MuseumsQuartier (MQ) begins on 12 May. Numerous events will be held until September. Just stop by – you will find lots going on in the MQ all summer long.
Vienna's MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is one of the biggest cultural areas in the world. The mix of large museums, small cultural initiatives and trendy bars is a success story. The outdoor season starts this year on 12 May with the SummerOpening. From 3.00 pm, visitors can rummage for bargains at the cultural flea market in the main courtyard of the MQ while listening to the sounds of the DJs.
Admission to all museums and cultural institutions in the MQ is free after 5.00 pm. In addition to the current exhibitions, visitors can look forward to special tours and workshops for children. The opening is celebrated with two open-air concerts in the main courtyard: There is a live gig by the band A Life A Song A Cigarette at 7.00 pm followed by a combined performance by the bands Ash My Love and BulBul at 8.00 pm. Until the end of September, the inner courtyards of the MuseumsQuartier draw visitors with a boules area, cozy guest gardens, cool weekend sounds by DJs as well as the stylish MQ furniture to relax on. The Aquadrome also starts on 12 May and invites people to boat races on the pond.
The O-Töne Literature Festival organizes first-class open-air readings again in July and August. Film fans also get their money's worth in July and August: The frame[o]ut festival provides audiovisual surprises on the outdoor cinema screen in the MQ on 18 evenings during the summer.
