"The Hotel AUSTRIA Team CELEBRATES!"

A few days before the 24th of December, we were ready to celebrate!

Finish up the work on the floors, the breakfast service and in the reception - and then finally:

Grab the hair-dryer, combs and brushes, make-up set and lipstick!

First, we took a moment to look back on 2016 in front of our beautiful Christmas tree, before enjoying a glass of sparkling wine to celebrate the NEW Year TOGETHER!

We then went on to the PALAZZO – mirror palace to enjoy a beautiful evening with an excellent 4-course menu and many breathtaking artistic and unforgettable comedy interludes.

"Our special BALL BREAKFAST after a long night of waltzing!"

In January and February, Vienna offers thousands of hours of dancing pleasure at countless balls.

Welcome to the Ball Season

Each year more than 450 balls take place in Vienna. The city of waltzes exuberantly celebrates Carnival in January and February. The three-quarter rhythm is supplemented by more contemporary sounds, offering enjoyable dancing for every taste.

In Vienna, the ball season reaches its peak in January and February. The old tradition of carnival balls continues to thrive in the city. While some dancers enjoy following the three-quarter time of the waltzes, others may prefer letting loose to a disco beat.

Vienna's ball season offers more than 2000 hours of dancing.

The ball season kicks off with the Vienna Red Cross Ball at City Hall on the official start of the carnival season (11 November 2016). On New Year’s Eve, guests dance into the new year in a magnificent setting at the New Year’s Eve Ball at the Hofburg Vienna (Imperial Palace).

Numerous other famous ball events are held here as well, such as the Hunters' Ball - Jägerball (30 January 2017), the Doctors' Ball (28 January 2017) and the Lawyers' Ball (25 February 2017). The Coffee-house Owners' Ball (17 February 2017) is one of the most atmospheric. Each year it brings about 6,000 visitors to Vienna's Imperial Palace and into the Redoutensäle.

The Opera Ball (23 February 2017) at the Vienna State Opera is legendary. On this one day, visitors have the unique opportunity to see the famous opera house on Ringstrasse not only from the spectators' seats but actually experience it "backstage" surrounded by many music celebrities.

The Vienna Philarmonic (19 January 2017) opens the doors to its ball at the Vienna Musikverein. However, at this event the musicians of this world-famous orchestra can only be found with their instruments during the introduction. Because even the performers of the Vienna Philarmonic want to shake a leg now and then.

The sweetest ball is the Bonbon Ball (24 February 2017) at the Wiener Konzerthaus. This ball is known for its fun and informal ambiance. The Strauss Brothers once celebrated their greatest accomplishments at the Vienna Kursalon - where visitors can now dance to the tune of waltzes at the Johann Strauss Ball (18 February 2017).

At the Ball of the Vienna Boys' Choir (27 January 2017), guests not only dance to the waltz but also to plenty of samba and bossa nova, befitting this year's host country Brazil. And, of course, the Vienna Boys' Choir opens the ball with a performance.

For the Flower Ball (13 January 2017), City Hall transforms into a unique sea of flowers. Also being held in City Hall is the Viennese Ball of the Sciences (28 January 2017), which represents Vienna’s entire research and higher education landscape in all its diversity, internationality and excellence.

Holiday on Ice: Believe

A modern Romeo and Juliet story on ice: that's the new Holiday on Ice show "Believe" at the Wiener Stadthalle. From 12 to 22 January, it's all about true love that conquers all obstacles, right through to the happy ending.

A single continuous story is told at Holiday on Ice for the first time. The gripping story of forbidden love that knows no bounds casts young and old under its spell. With innovative lighting and sound effects, the magical show takes the audience to two spheres: one characterized by machines, the other full of glitz and glamor.

Between these contrasts, Believe covers everything from excellent ice skating and spectacular surprises right through to the happy ending - which Shakespeare's version doesn't have, of course. The Holiday on Ice show thrills with innovative technology and extraordinary choreography. It presents breathtaking dance performances on and above the ice. There's a glittering acrobatic number in the water fountain, as well as highlights such as fascinating stunt skaters or a performance in illuminated costumes.

Ice dancing legend Christopher Dean has been appointed as director and choreographer for Holiday on Ice - Believe. The seven-times British champion and four-times European champion crowned his career on the ice when he received nine maximum scores of 6.0 and became Olympic winner in ice dancing with his dance partner Jayne Torvill at the Winter Olympic Games.

Don Camillo & Peppone

In the musical version of "Don Camillo & Peppone", the two swashbucklers bluster their way across the stage of the Ronacher from 27 January. Poetic, touching, wise and above all hilarious. With Andreas Lichtenberger, Frank Winkels and Maya Hakvoort.

The Don Camillo & Peppone material is known from the novels by Giovannino Guareschi and the films starring Fernandel and Gino Cervi. The musical version celebrates its Austrian premiere at the Ronacher in spring 2017. The book and lyrics are by Grammy prizewinner Michael Kunze, the music was written by the Italian composer Dario Farina – known to many for his cult pop songs such as Felicità or for his film music to Rossini.

The comedy tells the story of two permanently arguing opponents: the pastor Don Camillo and the mayor Peppone. The year is 1947, traditional values are confronted with the ideals of the social revolution. Not even Jesus can placate the angry pastor. And so the brawlers line up against each other and split the villagers into two camps: one cunning and eloquent, the other stubborn and unyielding.

Only a young couple in love really gets people to change their views. Gina, the daughter of a landowner, is in love with the penniless Mariolino. It is the classic Romeo and Juliet story: Two hostile families try everything they can to prevent their children getting together - but in vain. The wedding of Gina and Mariolino may not end all the discord in the village, but it does become a festival of tolerance celebrated by all the residents.
