ImPulsTanz Festival 2019
From July 12, the renowned dance festival once again presents a whole month of professional stage performances with international performing artists and innovative works by talented newcomers. A bunch of workshops get everyone dancing: beginning, professional, children and the young at heart.
The festival opens with a spectacular performance: "Macbeth" by the Austrian-born choreographer Johann Kresnik. The now 79 year-old pioneer of German dance theater has reconstructed his interpretation of the Shakespeare drama, 30 years after it premiered in Heidelberg. Dancing to the music of the multi-award-winning composer Kurt Schwertsik is the ballet ensemble of the Linz Regional Theater in front of the impressive stage set by Gottfried Helnwein.
Further highlights: the performance of the Tanztheater Wuppertal with "Masurca Fogo" by Pina Bausch, the cult figure of the international dance scene who died in 2009. ImPulsTanz co-founder Ismael Ivo and his ensemble Balé da Cidade de São Paulo collaborated with the choreographer Morena Nascimento to create the moving piece "Um Jeito de Corpo", accompanied by the music of the Brazilian singer and composer Caetano Veloso. And the Danish star choreographer and performer Mette Ingvartsen can be seen on stage with her four-part series "The Red Pieces".
International choreographers and dancers support beginners and professionals, children, teens and golden agers again at 230 workshops in the Vienna Arsenal. Whether ballet, jazz, improv, contemporary, urban dance or body parcours – there's much to try out. And if that's not enough, there are DJ nights and concerts in the ImPulsTanz Festival Lounge in the Burgtheater foyer to dance to each evening.
In addition to the Volkstheater and Burgtheater, the international dance festival will be held on large and small stages again this year. A cooperation is under way with the Leopold Museum, which is opening an entire floor for the renowned festival from mid-July to mid-August.
