The mumok – Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna is celebrating three anniversaries all at once. For this, there are two new exhibitions: visitors to the MuseumsQuartier can look forward to the combined power of contemporary art with the large collection show "Enjoy" and a solo exhibition on Heimo Zobernig.
The mumok is currently celebrating three anniversaries: 40 years of the Ludwig Foundation (the collection of the married couple Peter and Irene Ludwig forms the core of the collection), 20 years of residence in Vienna's MuseumsQuartier, and ten years of the director Karola Kraus. Which should, of course, be celebrated. With a best-of: Enjoy – the mumok Collection in Change shows the central donations and purchases of the last decade until April 2022. The special exhibition extends almost throughout the entire building. Chronologically arranged – from classical Modernism to contemporary art.
Enjoy stands for a colorful mix: both established and up-and-coming artists, solo and group presentations. The focus is on highlighting development and changeability – of the museum, of art, and of society in general. Because the anniversary show is far more than a retrospective: it wants to offer the public a summary and an outlook all in one. New perspectives are intended to facilitate discussions, which can be used as the basis on which to design future collection and exhibition activities of the museum.
At the same time as Enjoy, a comprehensive show by and about Heimo Zobernig launches at the mumok. The Austrian artist is internationally renowned, works across a range of media, and conceived the exhibition architecture himself. With reference to selected blocks of work from past years, the focus is on his painting.
