From July 1 to 18, 2026, Vienna’s Heumarkt will be transformed into a breathtaking opera venue, where Georges Bizet’s masterpiece “Carmen” will be performed under the baton of conductor and artistic director Joji Hattori and directed by Dominik Am Zehnhoff-Söns. Twelve exclusive performances will make this event one of the cultural highlights of the summer.

At the 2026 Vienna Opera Summer, Hosea Ratschiller takes on the role of the Spirit of Georges Bizet. Between the acts of “Carmen,” he recounts the moving story behind the opera—from its origins, its great passions, and its tragic pull—and brings it to life for the audience in a very special way.
